Section A - Richmond Rose Society Challenge Classes

Anne Long Challenge Classes through Class 6 are open only to Richmond Rose Society members—this means that Richmond is their Home Society. Members are allowed only one entry in each class and the entries must be placed by the exhibitor.

Richmond Rose Society Trophy for Sweepstakes is awarded to the qualifying Richmond Rose Society member receiving the highest number of Blue ribbons in all classes. Trophy: Donated by Strange’s Nursery

Class 0 - Anne Long Challenge Class - Collection Exhibition Hybrid Teas. Six Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras evenly matched at exhibition stage. No restrictions as to variety, can be same variety or mixed. Presented in one container supplied by the exhibitor. This exhibit is to be judged on the quality of the roses only, the container is not considered. Trophy: Donated by Lou Long

Class 1 - Andy Cinsavich Memorial Trophy - Collection Exhibition Hybrid Teas. Three Hybrid Teas at exhibition stage consisting of at least one of the following varieties: Brigadoon, Signature, or Veteran’s Honor (Andy’s favorite roses). Other factors equal, more credit to be given to collections with the greater number of “Andy’s favorites” included. The roses are to be displayed in one container which will be furnished by the Richmond Rose Society. Trophy: Donated by Kaye Cinsavich

Class 2 - Garner Memorial Trophy - Veteran’s Honor with one bloom-per-stem exhibition stage without side buds. Trophy: Donated by Lucie Beauchamp

Class 3 - Yannello Memorial trophy - Three Shrubs (Modern or Classic) of the same or different varieties— displayed in the same container. Trophy: Donated by Marion Brown & John Donelson

Class 4 - Lutz Memorial Trophy - Three Miniflora blooms or Three Miniature blooms of the same or different varieties with one-bloom-per-stem— displayed in the same container. Trophy: Donated by the Anne McNeal

Class 5 - Randolph Gladding Trophy for Mini/Miniflora - Three miniature rose sprays or three Miniflora rose sprays of different varieties with two or more blooms—displayed in the same container. Trophy: Donated by Jim Diggs

Class 6 - Jay Donohue Memorial Trophy for Miniature & Standard Hi-Lo Combination - One miniature and one standard rose of any variety of same color and form at exhibition sage with no side buds. Trophy: Donated by Tom & Annette Critelli Challenge Classes 7-16 are open to all exhibitors. Members are allowed only one entry in each class and the entries must be placed by the exhibitor.

Class 7 - Helen L. Woolridge Memorial Trophy - Hi-Lo Combination - One hybrid tea with one-bloom-per-stem, and one miniature with one-bloom-per-stem—displayed each in separate containers. Roses should be of complimentary color combination. Trophy: Donated by Jim Diggs

Class 8 - Mabel Speer Memorial Trophy - Three different David Austin roses. Any combination one-bloom-per-stem or sprays—displayed each in separate containers. Trophy: Donated by Jim Diggs

Class 9 - Catherine Rose Memorial Trophy - Three floribunda sprays, in any combination of varieties—displayed all in the same container. Trophy: Donated by the Anne McNeal

Class 10 - Best Collection of Three OGR Sprays or Shrub Sprays - Three OGR sprays or shrub sprays, in any combination of varieties—displayed each in separate containers. Trophy: Donated by Connie Hilker

Class 11 - Best Cycle of Bloom - Three hybrid teas or grandifloras of the same variety in the three stages of opening. One 1/4 open (past bud stage), one 1/2 to 3/4 open (exhibition stage), and one bloom fully open (stamens should show)—displayed in the same container. Trophy: Donated by Lucie Beauchamp

Class 12 - Best Collection of Three Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras of Different Varieties - Three hybrid teas or grandifloras of different varieties, evenly matched— displayed in the same container. Trophy: Donated by the Bob & Elaine Doutney

Class 13 - Best Collection of Three Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras of the Same Variety - Three hybrid teas or grandifloras of the same variety, evenly matched— displayed in the same container. Trophy: Donated by Paul Simpson

Class 14 - Best Large Last-Minute Beauties - Not less than 10 or more than 15 stems of any rose type other than miniatures or mini floras—displayed in the same container. Container provided by the Richmond Rose Society. Trophy: Donated by Tom & Annette Critelli

Class 15 - Best Small Last-Minute Beauties - Not less than 10 or more than 15 stems of any miniatures or Minifloras— displayed in the same container. Container provided by the Richmond Rose Society. Trophy: Donated by Marion Brown & John Donelson

Class 16 - Easy Care Roses (Exhibition only - not judged) An “Easy Care Rose” is defined for this class as any rose having the “Earth-kind” designation by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service, any Rose awarded the “quality certificate” by the ADR working group, all Rugosa roses, all species roses, or any rose grown by the exhibitor without use of insecticide and with no more than four sprayings of fungicide in any calendar year and suitable for exhibition. Roses shall be identified and prepared according to the rules of Section B, Classes 101 - 111. (No floating roses, boxes, or painter’s palettes are allowed in this class.) Containers will be provided by the Richmond Rose Society, but preference for containers will be to the judged classes. Entries in this class may be modified or removed from exhibition at the discretion of the Richmond Rose Society for reasons such as misidentification, excessive insect or fungus damage, or overabundance of any one type of rose. Multiple entries per exhibitor are allowed in this class only.
